Indonesia Procurement Watch (IPW) is paying close attention to the evolving dynamics of law enforcement in several alleged corruption cases involving law enforcement officials. This situation has generated widespread public concern and has the potential to undermine public trust in law enforcement institutions if it is not managed in a professional and independent manner.
In this regard, IPW calls on the President of the Republic of Indonesia to demonstrate firm, neutral, and principled leadership by upholding the rule of law, consistent with his commitment to combating corruption without fear or favor.
IPW expresses the following positions:
First, as both the Head of State and Head of Government, the President is expected to maintain a neutral position and refrain from allowing any form of interference in ongoing investigations, inquiries, prosecutions, or judicial proceedings. All law enforcement agencies must be given the independence to carry out their duties professionally based on evidence and the applicable laws and regulations.
Second, the President must ensure that all law enforcement institutions exercise their respective functions and authorities independently, respect one another, and prioritize effective coordination. Differences in jurisdiction or case handling must not escalate into institutional conflicts that could undermine the broader national agenda of combating corruption.
Third, IPW calls on the President to reaffirm the principle that no one is above the law. Every allegation of corruption must be investigated and prosecuted objectively, without regard to position, institutional affiliation, political connections, or the background of the individuals involved.
Fourth, IPW believes that firm, fair, and impartial leadership from the President will be a crucial factor in maintaining the stability of law enforcement and restoring public confidence in state institutions.
IPW believes that the fight against corruption can only succeed if all law enforcement agencies operate in accordance with the principles of equality before the law, the rule of law, accountability, and transparency. Therefore, the President is expected to serve as the foremost guardian of these principles—not by siding with any particular institution, but by upholding the Constitution, the law, and the interests of the nation.
